Below Matariki
Whakapapanui River - Awesome class 3 whitewater. worth the short walk to the put in and a local favorite. Bolder style rapids. Look out for some big holes. This run needs rain to flow, and raises and falls fast. You don't want to be on it during the rise. Make sure to get out above the intake. Portage on the left and ferry across underneath it.
Whakapapa Intake to Owhango
Whakapapa River - An absolute central North Island classic. If you get this when it is raining or one of the bi-annual releases you will be in paddling heaven. Remote feeling, continuous bouldery rapids will keep you occupied and entertained on this 20km + run
Top Gorge Run
Manganui-a-te-Ao - Really cool class 3, very similar to Access 10. This is a good run when there hasn't been enough rain for others in the area to come in. Feed from a SW system. At a medium flow (approx. 30cms) it is a nice grade 3. If it is big and brown expect exciting grade 4.
