Diverse is how we would best describe the paddling in this mountain/prairie province. In the west of the province runs are characterized by beautiful backdrops, continuous rivers and cold water. Everything from mellow multi day floats in national parks to hairy class V creeking is available in the west. As you move further east the gradient drops but there are still plentiful paddling options for those looking to float mellow rivers in really unique surroundings. It is a huge province so don't neglect to look north and south too. A very worthwhile paddling destination in it's own right.

Smallboy Camp to Ford
Brazeau River - The river cuts its way through a steep banked valley producing many surfwaves and grade II-III features in the sharp corners and over rock ledges. Additional features are created by boulders and ledges that constrict the flow. The valley is very scenic with consistent gradient and features through the first half of the run, it then mellows as the river valley opens up the rest of the way to the old ford. At the right flows the Brazeau river quite likely offers the best playboating in the area with numerous friendly surfable features.
Above Whitehorse Creek
McLeod River - Steep canyon full of waterfalls. Park and Huck: Scout as you hike up. The falls range from 2 - 9m with varying degrees of difficulty. It is easy to do laps on the ~9m Gravity Sucks and at lower flows is noobie friendly. Be advised that Hammer Time Grade V-V+ lies below the canyon downstream of Gravity Sucks. Creeking: The drops range from grade IV-VI and there are multiple must make scouts/portages.
