Diverse is how we would best describe the paddling in this mountain/prairie province. In the west of the province runs are characterized by beautiful backdrops, continuous rivers and cold water. Everything from mellow multi day floats in national parks to hairy class V creeking is available in the west. As you move further east the gradient drops but there are still plentiful paddling options for those looking to float mellow rivers in really unique surroundings. It is a huge province so don't neglect to look north and south too. A very worthwhile paddling destination in it's own right.

Lake Access
Ethel Lake - Great small lake for a days adventure. Short drive from Cold Lake Alberta
Seibert Lake Campground
Seibert Lake - Amazing lake for an afternoon paddle. The shore lines are about 4 feet deep for 50 yards. Nice clean lake with lots of wildlife. A awesome campground on the water with a very well maintained boat launch and dock.
North Boat Launch
Bourque Lake - Perfect escape for the day or the weekend! I paddled the entire lake and it was a blast, took 4 hours. Full of wildlife, and interesting bays to paddle into. Lots of available camping around the lake, unmonitored and free to use. Used manly by the locals. Well worth the trip.
Stonehouse Bed & Breakfast at Long Bay
Cold Lake - When most report on Cold Lake, they note it’s size (it’s big and open), clean and clear water, and cold (it’s also deep). Most are unaware that the largely hidden southern bays of the lake are world class bird nesting grounds. There is a good day of paddling in Long Bay birding, picknicking, and wading on “the sandbar” that separates this serene area from the main lake.
