Diverse is how we would best describe the paddling in this mountain/prairie province. In the west of the province runs are characterized by beautiful backdrops, continuous rivers and cold water. Everything from mellow multi day floats in national parks to hairy class V creeking is available in the west. As you move further east the gradient drops but there are still plentiful paddling options for those looking to float mellow rivers in really unique surroundings. It is a huge province so don't neglect to look north and south too. A very worthwhile paddling destination in it's own right.

South Castle
South Castle river - There's some cool features here, mostly a mix of pool drop bigger features with time to recover and continuous rapids. Wood hazard exists so be careful. Mostly it's grade two with the odd easier grade 3 feature. It will go when the normal Castle run goes. If you just want one car, plan to run or bike shuttle. You can potentially do more upstream but note that it gets woodier and more dangerous in the flatter valley section that is braided. I would recommend high caution if going above my recommended put-in. Combine it with the Castle Falls run (probably portaging the falls) if you want more kms on the river. It would be very doable in a day.
