Kanawha River
- The Kanawha is a deep river with commercial traffic. Current in summer time is minimal so it's almost like flatwater lake paddling but the motorboats and barges provide waves and swell. Access is easy downtown at Frontier boat ramp or just upriver at Daniel Boone Park. Both accesses have plenty of free parking. No shuttling is necessary. The view of town and the state Capitol is beautiful. Canoes and kayaks easily handle the motorboat wakes but if the river is busy a K-1 is difficult.
