Takhini River Day Trip Map

Features

clay cliffs

Just some sand dune type cliffs that you can get out and explore on

Jaws (Class 2+ Rapid)

The Jaws of Death ( or Gums of worry) can be identifed by sound alone. you will see a clay bank along the river and as you get closer you will hear the rapid. You can take out in a really big eddy on River left and walk to scout the rapid and decide what you want to do.

Low Water Surf Wave

This low water surf wave is in when the water is low. It is located behind a little island in the river. Go to the left of the island and you can eddy out right beside the wave. This wave dissapears as the water gets higher ( mid June)

Mendenhall Landing (Take Out)

The Take out is located approximately 1 hr below the Jaws of death. You will pass a really long clay cliff on your right and about 10-15 minutes after there will be a clearing on the left where you will see the road and your car.

PUT IN

Turn down the road that takes you to the Kusawa lake campground. The first put in is located by the first campground you come to, approximately 15 km down the road. Slide your boat down the bank and away you go. Alternative put in is located another 5 km down the road where you can see the mouth of the river from the road. this requires a portage down a steeper bank

Rock Gardens

The rock Gardens are super fun at low water. lots of eddies to catch and play around in and rocks to make it a little bit technical. At high water most of the rocks are covered and you just float right over.
