Bridge to Highwood River Map

Features

Put In

Park anywhere on the river left open area and put in just below the bridge. You should be able to float comfortably but still have some of the ledges on the first rapid out of the water for a medium flow.

Mindbender Waterfall (Class IV)

A technical twisting little drop (15' or so) into a deep forgiving pool. Be aware that there is a shallow fast slide flowing right out of the pool. Also note, at higher water you will want to get out well upstream of the drop to scout as eddies become very scarce in the small canyon above the drop when the water is up.

Mindbender Slide (Class IV)

A technical, twisting slide that s pretty straightforwards until the water is higher where some little undercuts come into play. Portage on river right if that is your plan.

Takeout

Exit the river on the left and walk a short distance up to your vehicle on the road.

Double Ledge (Class III/III+)

At medium and low levels a fun double ledge followed by boulder garden rapid. At higher levels a fairly significant hole starts to fomr

Slam Bang Rapid (Class V - Ugly)

In higher levels this can be run on the right. At regular levels it is usually portaged on the left. Either way get out above the obvious horizon line on river left and scout and portage.

River very slow and woody from here down

After the 2013 floods this section of river from here down is very meandering and there are a bunch of annoying short portages over fallen wood. Might be worth considering exiting the river here.
