Widowmaker to 40 Boat Eddy Map

Features

Put In (Widowmaker)

Park in the main parking lot. Walk upstream past the closed gate. To put in below Widowmaker walk down the stairs, to run Widowmaker (Class III) walk past the stairs and shortly after follow the trail towards the river. Either put in by the river gauge or do the 15' seal launch.

Take Out (Canoe Meadows)

Park int he Canoe Meadows parking lot. You can either exit right after the racecourse finishes (slalom section) or a little further down on river right at 40 boat eddy

Widowmaker Rapid (Class II/III)

A simple constriction in the river with some fairly aggressive/fun and random boils and whirlpools below!

The Racecourse (Class II+/III)

This is a fast and fun section of water with loads of features to work on skills.. It is much more continuous in nature so newer paddlers be a little aware of that. This section goes all the way to the takeout.

Chubbies Play Hole (Class II/III)

This is a great feature to playboat in. Experienced playboaters can throw most aerial moves in here. Newer paddlers can flat spin, learn to cartwheel and more. A little shallow though has a sweet spot on surfers left

Surfers Wave (Class II/III)

The mountain wave. Built and maintained by the Alberta River Surfers Association. This big green wave is a favorite with Bow Valley based River Surfers. Also great fun in longer river runner boats for long soul surfing sessions. Gets pretty busy sometimes so be polite and patient.

Santa Claws (Class III)

The biggest rapid on the Kananaskis and also one of the better play features. A straight shot green tongue to big wave hit, for freestyle paddlers wave moves are the order of business here.

Hollywood Hole (Class II)

A small bedrock ledge on river left. pretty retentive and fun to play around in. One of the original and natural river features on the Kan.

Thunder Bunny (Class II)

A small ledge which can be sneaked on river left though easy to run on river right. Very fun surf wave and a great social spot on the river!

Point Break (Class III)

Point Break is the crashing 'Play Hole/Wave' at the bottom of a fun section of Class II+/III- paddling. Technical for newer paddlers with loads of fun moves for more advanced boaters. Point break itself is a thrashy (yet forgiving) feature that you can perform most aerial moves in.

40 Boat Eddy

A great spot to practise eddy turns, rolls etc but also the main takeout for this section
