Trips and Routes

Upper
Waihohonu River - This is possibly the most beautiful place I have ever been, but how do you judge?? Very low volume, tight technical paddling. Elbow pads a great option. Each gorge looks intimidating, but all end in a pool and are relatively short. Rope skills and good river running skill required in here as hazards change regularly. Once in there the paddling is its own uniquely fun style.
Lower Section
Waihohonu River - Just as I said for the upper this river is absolutly beautiful. Expect to find fun low volume class 3 rapids. Near the end look out for a really neat cave and spring. There are two rapids that are commanly portaged. One is a tight line around a piton rock. The other a very sticky hydraulic that deserves a bit of respect. Portage both of these on river left. Follow the hand lines and don't fall in!
