Skaneateles Lake - This is a very popular boating destination in the region and is well known for it's fishing and recreational boating. Powerboats and sailboats are very common in season, but the lake can be quite peaceful in the off season or early mornings. Southerly winds do cause waves to pile up against the breakwater/sea wall along the park and village at the North end of the lake, so avoiding this as a put-in with strong southerly winds is advised.
I typically paddle within 100 yards of shore to avoid powerboats and choose east or west shore depending on sun and wind direction.
