Bridge to Highwood River
Etherington Creek - Etherington Creek is a tiny little creek that is a tributary of the Highwood River. It only really runs during early spring run off. What you see is what you get from the takeout. A narrow, twisting creek with lots of Class II boogie water interspersed with some fantastic bedrock rapids. The first of these is Mind Bender Falls a 15 + foot drop into a bubbly pool. Running out of this bubbly pool is Mind Bender slide a tricky Class IV rapid. More boogie water eventually leads you to a fun double drop rapid (Class III+), after a short bouldery section there is a small pool. Take out on the left to scout/portage the manky Slam Bang Rapid. This goes on the right at higher water levels, though the rest of the run is definitely pretty sporty when Slam Bang looks clean! From here down to the takeout it is bouldery Class II/III paddling with the likelihood of short portages around logjams in the creek. A geat add on run for those doing a Cataract Creek lap.
