The Dryway (Monroe Bridge to Bear Swamp)
Deerfield River - The Monroe Bridge Section of the Deerfield (also known as 'The Dryway') is a popular class III-IV river that can draw a rather sizable crowd on release days. The river generally starts out easy then gets progressively harder as one paddles downstream.
Fife Brook Section (Bear Swamp to Zoar Gap)
Deerfield River - The Fife Brook section of the Deerfield River is a popular Class II run in Northwestern Massachussetts. The Fife Brook section ends with the Class III 'Zoar Gap' rapid, that can be easily walked on river right.
Dryway
Deerfield River - The Dryway part of the Deerfield River is a class 3/4 River with challenging rapids. There are some areas for playboating/freestyle, but the focus is on river running. This river requires a bulletproof roll and some rescue training in a kayak. In a raft, it is easier but requires an expert guide with rescue training.
