Buntzen Lake - Buntzen Lake is a favourite local paddleboarding destination because of how scenic it is nestled between the mountains, yet still close to the city. The best time to paddle is mornings and evenings because the winds often pick up in the afternoons. Paddling from South Beach to North Beach is around 3km and there's several small beaches along the way to stop at depending on the water levels.
Buntzen Lake is a BC Hydro reservoir and the park rangers do an excellent job managing the park. They are pretty strict with dogs, alcohol, off-water time, and the prohibit motor boats making it an excellent place for beginner paddlers. If you're feeling lazy, you can drive to the boat launch, unload gear, then park the car. As soon as you hit the water, you won't notice the crowds and can enjoy swimming in the clean lake and may be lucky enough to spot some of the local wildlife.
