Welcome to the Bow Valley Kayak Club's beginner program.
This is a four day progressive course. Based in the Bow valley and Kananaskis areas. Aimed at beginners.
Water confidence is a must and the open-ness to have a surprise entry to cold water is desirable.
Due to this being a progressive course, meaning each session builds on the skills acquired from the previous session, it is important that participants can commit to every session.

Are you a Beginner paddler? Have you never tried yet always fancied it? Do you have a lust for adventure that can be suppressed no longer? Welcome to the Bow Valley Kayak club's "zero to hero" introductory whitewater course.
This “zero to hero” program is a four day program designed to get you from having never sat in a boat; to navigating Whitewater rapids with style. Over four training sessions we will learn all the necessary skills to enter the world of Whitewater paddle sports. This will include equipment, weather, water levels, paddling technique, decision making, navigating obstacles and rapids, and ultimately having a fantastic time some of the most picturesque landscapes on the planet.

Day 1: intros, equipment familiarisation and fitting, flat water session with wet exits.
Day 2: introduce moving water principles. Learn basics of starting and stopping on a river. moving around the river safely, wet exits in moving water, safe swimming practices, how to perform rescues. River trip on easier stretch bow river utilising and adapting skills acquired.
Day 3: longer river trip. With lots of time to consolidate both paddling and river running skills. Learn basic rescue techniques
Day 4: Kananaskis River! Challenge our skills on our first whitewater river!

Pre-requirement: water confidence. Can swim 50m (2 lengths) without stopping.
