Are you a Beginner paddler? Have you never tried yet always fancied it? Do you have a lust for adventure that can be suppressed no longer?
Welcome to the Bow Valley Kayak club's "zero to hero" introductory whitewater course.
The zero to hero program is a moving-water training course designed to get you from having never sat in a boat; to navigating Whitewater rapids with style. Over six sessions we will learn all the necessary skills to enter the world of Whitewater paddle sports. This will include equipment, weather, water levels, basic paddling technique, decision making, navigating obstacles and rapids, and ultimately having the best times making great friends in the most picturesque landscapes on the planet.
Pre-requirements: This course is designed for just about everybody as long as you are happy swimming in outdoor environments and have a very basic level of fitness, you are going to have a blast.
Venue: flat water, grade 1 and 2 moving water in Canmore and Kananaskis.
1st session: intros, all about equipment, get a feel for paddling a whitewater craft, learn how to flip over and exit the kayak safely.
2nd session: become proficient at paddling a whitewater kayak on flat water
3rd session: introduction to eddies and paddling in current
4th session: full river trip, learning all about different eddies and navigating rivers
5th session: refinement of skills learned and developed in the program so far.
6th session: Putting our skills to great use in a whitewater environment.
Participants are provided boat, paddle, helmet, PFD, Spray deck, Spray top, and wetsuit.
