The Bow Valley Kayak Club's "next steps" program.

The Beyond Basics course is our "next steps" program for anyone that has completed a beginner course and wishes to take up whitewater kayaking as a hobby.

once completing a beginner course you will have the basic skills necessary to navigate easy rivers and, by participating in the "beyond basics" program, are looking to improve technical ability, confidence, and fun on more challenging features and different rivers.

During the sessions we will explore more parts of the river, gain confidence going through bigger waves and features, learn more about line-choice, river reading, maneuvers, rescue tactics, equipment, and teamwork.
Locations are usually the bow river and the kananaskis river but we try our very best to get further a field to places like the elbow and the ghost and sometimes the red deer. this is all time, weather and water level dependent.

This course is not suitable for beginners. The ability to navigate flat-but-moving water, use eddies, and safely exit the boat during a capsize is necessary before joining.
