Youth Playboating Team
$125.00 / Members: $125.00
Bow Valley
Program Description
A multi-week program focused on introducing playboating to youth. A collaborative and fun focused training community aimed at junior paddlers in the Developmentals stage of paddler development. Meeting on select Tuesday evenings, the team will receive instruction from our coaches and mentorship from our Junior Freestyle Development Team to learn the basics of playboating.
Goals
The ultimate goal of this program is to cultivate paddlers love of playboating and produce lifelong soul surfers and tricksters. A secondary goal is to produce the next generation of competitive freestyle kayakers. Yet another goal is to expose youth to new challenges associated with surfing features and spending loads of time flipping over. Putting youth out of their comfort zone this way will help them develop awareness and skills that will inevitably benefit them in other disciplines like slalom, polo and river running.
Outcomes
In general, participants can expect to learn how to surf holes and waves with a degree of control. They will be taught about the anatomy of a feature, how to catch the wave and how to use there body and paddle to maneuver around in it. They will be taught basic achievable tricks that they can have fun with and throw down in our minor league competitions. They will be taught the basics of how to carve, bounce, blast, shuvit and maybe spin. They will also come out with an understanding of the rules for the minor league competitions and how participants can maximize their points at these events.
