Junior Freestyle Team
$250.00 / Members: $250.00
Bow Valley
Program Description
A summer long development program focused on freestyle kayaking. A collaborative and fun focused training community aimed at junior paddlers in the Transformations and Pursuit of Excellence stages. Meeting regularly on Tuesday evenings, the team will work together with our coaches to acquire and refine competition skills and tricks.
Goals
The ultimate goal of this program is to cultivate paddlers love of playboating and produce lifelong soul surfers and tricksters. An important secondary goal is to train junior freestyle kayakers to participate at provincial and national level competitions. Another key goal is to foster mentorship between experienced participants and novice participants, thereby initiating participants into a coaching pathway that may lead them to professional coaching.
Outcomes
In general, participants can expect to learn at least a few new tricks that they have never done before and possibly surf features they have never surfed before. The focus will be on hole based playboating, but if water levels permit, there will also be opportunity for developing some wave based tricks. Any tricks that paddlers start the program with will be further refined for consistency, links and bonus potential. Coaches will assess the developmental stage of each participant early on, and produce an individualized training plan that will include training recommendations outside of the formal sessions. These plans will be tailored directly to fit with participants goals for themselves. Finally, all participants will have the chance to mentor novice paddlers, facilitated by our coaches, which will have the added benefit of providing participants with a deeper understanding of their own skills.
